Nepal on Monday reported 18 Covid-19-related fatalities, taking the death toll to 757. The country’s infection tally climbed to 136,036, with 3,790 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The number of active cases stands at 40,778 as 94,501 people have made successful recovery—2,335 of them in the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, Kathmandu Valley recorded 2,388 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of them, 2,008 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 281 in Lalitpur and 99 in Bhaktapur.

As of Monday, the number of confirmed cases in the Valley has reached 57,770. A total of 55,272 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders on August 19.

According to the ministry, 343 individuals from Bagmati Province, 148 from Province 2, 107 from Lumbini Province, 96 from Province 1, 39 from Gandaki Province, 15 from Sudurpaschim Province, and nine from Karnali Province have died of Covid-19 so far.

The country has witnessed 118,042 infections and 717 deaths since July 22. A total of 17,994 cases and 40 deaths were registered until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.

As of Monday, 1,300,918 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.

“A total of 15,714 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said during regular press briefing.

In the past 24 hours, 497 new infections were reported in Province 1, 142 in Province 2, and 2,729 in Bagmati Province.

Similarly, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces reported 116, 208, 43, and 55 new cases respectively.

“Eleven districts—Morang, Sunsari, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Kaski, Dang, Rupandehi and Surkhet—have more than 500 active cases,” Gautam said. “Mustang district does not have any active case.”

“As of Monday, 282 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 63 others—38 in Bagmati Province, 12 in Province 1, Five in Lumbini, four in Gandaki, three in Sudurpaschim and one in Province 2—are on ventilator support.”

Nepal on Sunday had reported 2,942 new infections and 12 Covid-19-related fatalities while 3,167 new Covid-19 cases and 12 fatalities were reported on Saturday. The country Nepal on Friday had reported 21 Covid-19-related deaths and 4,392 new infections compared to 19 deaths and 3,749 new cases on Thursday and 2,638 new infections and 12 deaths on Wednesday.
