Nepal on Monday recorded 1,351 new cases taking the national C0vid-19 tally to 74,745. The country also reported four more deaths in the past 24 hours as the country’s coronavirus toll reached 481.

Two men and an equal number of women died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

Among the deceased, two men aged 47 and 34 were from Banke and Gulmi districts respectively while two women, a 38-year-old from Sunsari and a 51-year-old from Bhaktapur, also died of Covid-19.

So far, 54,640 individuals have made successful recovery—742 of them in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, there are 19,624 active cases.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 817 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of them, 649 were confirmed in Kathmandu, 132 in Lalitpur and 36 in Bhaktapur.

As of Monday, the number of cases in the Valley has reached 22,324. A total of 19,826 cases have been detected after the three district administration offices in Kathmandu Valley imposed prohibitory orders starting August 19 midnight.

The restrictions were extended, but with relaxations on some sectors. The government lifted restrictions on long-haul transportation last week. Domestic flights, too, resumed operations after six months on Monday.

The country has seen 56,751 infections and 441 deaths since July 22. There were 17,994 cases and 40 Covid-19-related deaths until July 21, when the government decided to end the nationwide lockdown after four months.

According to the ministry, 181 individuals from Bagmati Province, 128 from Province 2, 75 from Province 5, 53 from Province 1, 26 from Gandaki Province, 13 from Sudurpaschim Province, and five from Karnali Province have died of Covid-19 so far.

As of Monday, the 998,407 PCR tests have been carried out across the country.

“A total of 10,080 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours,” Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the ministry, said during a regular press briefing.

In the past 24 hours, 649 individuals from Kathmandu, 132 from Lalitpur, 55 from Siraha, 50 from Kailali, 49 from Morang, 40 from Makwanpur, 36 from Bhaktapur, 29 from Surkhet, 25 from Mahottari, 22 from Dhanusa, 20 each from Sunsari, Nawalparasi (East) and Rupandehi, 17 each from Chitwan and Tanahun, 16 from Banke, 14 from Bajhang, 13 from Achham, 11 from Dhading, 10 each from Saptari and Kavrepalanchok, tested positive for the coronavirus infection.

Infections were also recorded in seven people each in Parsa, Sindhupalchok, and Lamjung, six in Sarlahi, five each in Kapilvastu, Gulmi and Nawalparasi (West), four each in Sindhuli and Kaski, three each in Bara, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Parbat and Syangja, districts.

Likewise, two persons each in Ilam, Khotang, Jhapa, Terhathum, Bhojpur, Dang, Bardiya, Kalikot, Jajarkot, Dailekh and Salyan and one each in Okhaldhunga, Panchthar, Sanhuwasabha, Rautahat, Dolakha, Baglung, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan and Baitadi, also tested positive for the virus.

“Seven districts—Morang, Siraha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Rupandehi—have more than 500 active cases,” Gautam said. “Five districts—Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Mugu and Humla—don’t have any active cases.”

“As of Monday, 225 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units across the country and 31 patients—26 in Bagmati, three in Province 1 and two in Province 5—are on ventilator support.”

Nepal on Sunday had reported 1,573 new cases and 10 fatalities. On Saturday 1,207 new Covid-19 cases and eight deaths were reported while 1,313 new infections and six Covid-19-related deaths were reported on Friday. The country had reported 17 Covid-19-related deaths, the highest number of fatalities in a single day, and 1,497 new cases on Thursday. There were 1,172 new infections and seven Covid-19-related deaths on Wednesday and 1,356 new infections and two Covid-19-related deaths on Tuesday.
